To ensure the traffic safety, prevent rabies caused by unvaccinated dogs and cats and improve the responsibility of people towards their dogs, the Department of Animal Health has just introduced and implemented a new rule for dog owners.
According to the new rule, every dog owner must have their dogs vaccinated. In addition, they are obliged to keep their dogs under control by putting on a leash or a muzzle. Failure to follow the rule results in their dogs getting caught by the official dog catching team from the Department.
As a result, this new rule will greatly reduce the possibility of people getting bitten by unvaccinated dogs, hence, effectively prevent rabies. On top of that, there will be no dogs running around the street and unexpectedly causing traffic accidents. The goal of this new rule is to keep the streets safe, prevent diseases and raise the awareness of dog owners on their responsibilities.
The dog catching team is equipped with specialized trucks, cages and iron racks. Everyday, from 6am to 10am, 6-7 staffs are in charge of traveling around the streets in 24 districts in Ho Chi Minh City to gather dogs running freely under no control.
After getting caught, the dogs will be taken to the Animal Health Station. They will be taken care of. Within 72 hours, the owner of the dogs have to come to the department and pay the penalty to get their dogs back.
